The Adams County Literacy Council (ACLC) and Trinity Lutheran Church are teaming up to provide free literacy education in East Berlin, PA, to adults ages 17 & older. Tutoring services include reading, writing, math, GED/HiSet instruction, citizenship, basic literacy, and support for English Language Learners.
According to ProLiteracy (the largest adult literacy & basic education organization in the nation):
- Kids of parents with low literacy skills have a 72% chance of being at the lowest literacy rate themselves.
- Of adults with the lowest literacy levels, 43% live in poverty & 70% of welfare recipients have low literacy levels.
Tutoring services are now available at Trinity Lutheran Church (117 W King Street, East Berlin, PA 17316) Thursday evenings, 5:30pm-7:30pm.
You can help support this program by becoming a volunteer tutor! You do not need to be a certified teacher or hold special qualifications — you simply need to empathize with the student’s struggles, and consistently show up when tutoring appointments are made. The ACLC will provide the training you need to help adults meet their learning goals!
